It’s a brilliant audio adaptation of a visual quirk, and it makes the listening experience feel more immediate than the page ever could. That said, the romance’s instant-intensity might polarize. Adam and Juliette’s connection ignites *fast*—we’re talking ‘shared a glance, now I’d die for you’ territory—and while Landa sells the emotional whiplash, the lack of slow-burn might frustrate listeners who prefer their dystopian love stories marinated in tension. The worldbuilding also takes a backseat to Juliette’s psyche, which is intentional but means the broader conflict (the Reestablishment’s regime, the state of the world) often feels like a fuzzy backdrop. Still, the production is flawless: no distracting edits, no volume inconsistencies, just Landa’s voice and the occasional swell of ambient sound (a distant siren, a door slamming) to ground the story in its oppressive setting. If you’re here for a narrator who *embodies* a character rather than just reads her, and a romance that burns hotter than it simmers, this is your fix—but bring patience for the melodrama.
