Victoria Meakin’s narration is the standout here—she doesn’t just read Nietzsche; she *performs* him. Her voice has a clipped, almost Germanic precision when delivering dense concepts, but it softens into something almost conspiratorial when teasing out Nietzsche’s sly humor. It’s the kind of performance that makes you forget you’re listening to an audiobook and feel like you’re eavesdropping on a private debate. That said, Kail’s script occasionally stumbles when it comes to historical context. There are moments where Nietzsche’s personal life (his fraught relationship with Wagner, his infamous breakdown) feels *tacked on* rather than woven into the narrative, leaving gaps that might frustrate listeners new to the subject. The production itself is clean and unobtrusive, with no distracting audio artifacts, but the chapter breaks are so abrupt that they sometimes jar you out of Meakin’s immersive flow. Still, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent package. If you’ve ever wanted Nietzsche’s philosophy without the intimidation factor, this is the audiobook for you.
