I went in expecting a story about tragedy and recovery, but Snow Blind delivered something far more complex. Johnson doesn’t linger in self-pity, and that’s refreshing. His transformation into a blind skier and adventurer feels earned because we’re made to feel every stumble, every moment of doubt. Tecosky’s narration is perfectly matched—understated, never theatrical, letting the weight of Johnson’s words land without embellishment. The pacing in the first hour is a bit slow; the setup in Atlanta feels drawn out, and I almost paused it. But once the narrative shifts to rehabilitation and rediscovery, the momentum builds into something gripping. What stood out most was how Johnson redefines independence. It’s not about doing things alone—it’s about trusting others enough to move forward. The scenes with his son learning to guide him while skiing are quietly devastating. One critique: the transitions between past and present could be sharper in the audio mix—there were moments I wasn’t sure where we were timeline-wise. But that’s a minor flaw. The production is otherwise pristine. This is one of those audiobooks that stays with you, not because it’s flawless, but because it feels profoundly human.
