Jennifer Blom’s narration for *Soul Healer* is a masterclass in voice acting that somehow makes a 5-hour audiobook feel like it’s over in the blink of an eye. Her portrayal of Aria is spot-on: a woman who’s seen too much and trusts too little, but still pushes forward because giving up isn’t an option. Blom nails the exhaustion in Aria’s tone when she’s running on fumes, the sharpness when she’s cornered, and the quiet fury when she’s forced to make impossible choices. The supporting cast is where her work truly shines—each character has a distinct vocal identity that makes them feel like real people, not just NPCs in a script. The noble who grins like a wolf? Blom makes him sound like he’s already one step ahead of everyone. The imprisoned spirit who speaks in riddles? Her voice drops into something unsettlingly hollow, like she’s speaking from somewhere between life and death. The pacing is another standout. Culican’s writing is tight, and Blom’s delivery mirrors that precision—dialogue crackles with tension, action scenes are visceral, and the quieter moments of introspection feel earned, not rushed. My only real critique is that the worldbuilding, while rich, occasionally throws out terms and lore at a breakneck speed. It’s not enough to derail the experience, but there were moments where I found myself replaying a sentence or two just to keep up. That’s a minor gripe in an audiobook that otherwise feels like it was tailor-made for listeners who want their fantasy dark, their stakes high, and their narration so good it’s easy to forget you’re not actually in the room with the characters.
