Anthony Heald is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does. The New Republic’s leadership often feels like a cardboard cutout of bickering politicians, and some side characters vanish without a trace, making the world feel thinner than it should. The ending, too, is more of a setup than a payoff—more *Empire Strikes Back* than *Return of the Jedi*. But Heald’s performance and Zahn’s knack for atmosphere make these minor quibbles easy to overlook.
