Tim Gerard Reynolds is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does, and his performance is a masterclass in modulation. He doesn’t just narrate *Spellweaver Codex*—he *performs* it, especially when delivering the Spellweaver’s dialogues, which crackle with the weight of centuries and the arrogance of a deity who’s just realized they’re mortal after all. His portrayal of the protagonist, a scavenger turned reluctant scholar of these lost incantations, sells the transformation from cynical underdog to someone who understands the terrifying responsibility of power. The audiobook’s production is top-tier, with a soundscape that subtly underscores the magic system—soft chimes for spellcasting, a low hum for ancient texts—without ever distracting from Reynolds’ voice. That said, the middle act drags a bit as the plot juggles too many secondary characters, some of whom feel like placeholders rather than flesh-and-blood people. The final act redeems this with a twist that’s both satisfying and thematically rich, though the resolution to one major character’s arc feels rushed. Still, Reynolds’ narration alone makes this a standout, and if King’s world-building hooks you, you’ll be too invested to care about the pacing hiccups.
