About This Audiobook

Melissa J. Cave’s *Stardust Child* isn’t your average sci-fi fantasy—it’s a bruised, beautiful thing, all grit and quiet longing set against the hollowed-out bones of a dead empire. What begins as a scavenger’s tale becomes a war story, then a love story, then something far more brutal: a story about what survives when the world burns and the only thing left to cling to is each other. Remin, a knight whose hands are stained with the sins of too many battles, and Ophele, a princess who learned to disappear before she learned to speak, are two halves of a broken mirror—sharp edges where they meet. Their bond isn’t built on grand declarations but on the slow, sticky reality of shared survival in a universe that has already decided they’re obsolete. Cave’s prose is lean and muscular, but Danielle Rayne’s narration makes it sing, threading menace and tenderness through every syllable with a voice that can pivot from gravel to silk in a single breath. The audiobook crackles with tension, not from spectacle, but from the way these two damaged souls refuse to let each other go, even when the galaxy has given them every reason to walk away.

AudioBook Atlas

I came to *Stardust Child* expecting another recycled space opera with laser swords and brooding antiheroes, but Cave’s novel sucks you into its orbit with the force of a dying star—glorious, destructive, and impossible to look away from. Danielle Rayne’s narration is the secret weapon here; she doesn’t just voice the characters, she *embodies* them. Remin’s gruff exhaustion and Ophele’s cautious curiosity feel lived-in, like their pain and hope have been carved into every inflection. There were moments, though, where the pacing lagged in the third act, as if even the story itself was exhausted by its own weight. Some side characters blur together, and the worldbuilding occasionally feels more skeletal than fleshed out—Cave trusts us to fill in the gaps, which works until the gaps start to yawn too wide. But these are minor quibbles in a book that otherwise delivers a rare thing: a love story that’s as raw and unglamorous as war itself. The production is crisp, with minimal but effective sound design that never distracts from Rayne’s performance. If you love your sci-fi with heartbreak attached, this is the audiobook for you.
