The synthetic tone, initially jarring, became a clever stylistic choice—mechanical yet expressive, like a ship’s AI recounting a classified log. The pacing is razor-tight; there’s no filler, just escalating tension as Honor limps through hostile space. The alien design is genuinely unsettling, and King avoids the trap of over-explaining. That said, the emotional beats sometimes land too quickly—Masters’ grief could’ve used one more quiet moment. And while the narration fits the theme, it lacks warmth during character-driven scenes, making secondary crew members feel underdeveloped. Still, the final act is a masterclass in confined storytelling: a malfunctioning AI, dwindling power, and a suicide run against impossible odds. This isn’t just for kids—it’s a lean, fierce listen for any sci-fi fan who values tension over spectacle. The sound design is subtle but effective: creaking hulls, distant alarms, the eerie silence of deep space. It’s not flashy, but it’s immersive in a way that lingers.
