Michael Fell’s narration is the secret sauce that makes *Submitted* work as well as it does. His performance is a masterclass in balancing snark with sincerity, embodying the protagonist’s quick wit and underlying vulnerability without tipping into caricature. The alien voices—especially the dry, bureaucratic tones of the extraterrestrials—are a delight, adding a layer of dark humor that keeps the tone from veering too saccharine. That said, Fell stumbles slightly in the pacing department during the middle act, where the story’s momentum wobbles between exposition and action. Some transitions drag, and the audiobook’s runtime makes those lulls feel longer than they are. That quibble aside, his delivery of the sapphic romance subplot is pitch-perfect, capturing the push-and-pull of attraction with a nuance that elevates the material. The production itself is clean and polished, with only minor background noise creeping in during quieter scenes. If you’re a fan of snarky, genre-hopping queer stories with a side of existential dread (and a main character who’s equal parts lovable and insufferable), this audiobook is a must-listen.
