I went into *Sunset Springs* expecting a lighthearted fluff piece, but Callender delivers something sharper—a story that nails the ache of being trapped between who you are and who you’re supposed to be. Qamar Yochanan’s performance is the heart of this audiobook; their Charlie is a masterclass in restrained emotion, whether they’re rolling their eyes at a nosy neighbor or whispering a confession that feels like a secret. The pacing is tight, clocking in under three hours, but it never feels rushed—every scene earns its place, especially the cringe-inducing family dinners that’ll have you wincing in recognition. That said, the second act drags slightly with repetitive arguments that could’ve been tighter. And while the resolution is satisfying, it leans a bit too neatly into trope territory for my taste. Still, the audiobook’s charms—its wit, its raw honesty, and that killer narration—make it hard to resist. If you’ve ever wanted to scream at a fictional character to just *breathe*, this is your next listen.
