I went into *Surrender* expecting another romp of smoldering encounters and dramatic blow-ups, but Lisa Renee Jones surprised me by digging deeper into Ella and Kayden’s psyches. The first half of the book keeps the action tight and the dialogue snappy, but the second half stumbles slightly with pacing—there’s a rushed resolution that feels like the story’s energy got ahead of itself. That said, the emotional payoff between Ella and Kayden is earned, especially after the gut-punch moment where Kayden’s past choices threaten to tear them apart for good. Elizabeth Louise’s narration is a standout, particularly her portrayal of Kayden’s gruff intensity and Ella’s fiery determination. She nails the breathless, almost frenetic pacing of the love scenes without slipping into melodrama. My one gripe? The side characters, like Samantha, often get short shrift in the narration, making their motivations feel a bit muddy. Still, Louise’s performance sells the raw emotion of the central romance so well that even the weaker plot threads don’t derail the experience.
