I’ll be honest: I’ve listened to a *lot* of military sci-fi, and most of it blurs together after a while. *Terminus* stood out because it’s not just about the fights—it’s about what happens to a soldier when the fights *stop* making sense. Hardman’s writing shines in the quiet moments: Maker’s hands shaking as he reloads, the way he flinches at the sound of his own breath in a vacuum-sealed corridor. The Vacra are terrifying not because they’re over-described, but because they’re *felt*—their presence is a pressure in your chest, like holding your breath underwater. Naramore’s performance is stellar, though I’ll dock half a point for his female voices, which occasionally veer into caricature. But his Maker? Perfect. The man sounds like he’s chewing gravel and regret. Pacing-wise, the first act is a slow burn (some listeners might chafe at the introspection), but once the Vacra reappear, it’s a sprint. The sound design is subtler than most audiobooks—no bombastic score, just the hum of engines and the *click* of a magazine locking into place. My only real critique? The ending lands a bit too neatly for a story this raw. Still, if you want sci-fi that’s equal parts adrenaline and existential dread, this is your drop pod.
