Territoires

Renaud Dehesdin’s narration of *Territoires* is a masterclass in how voice can make a story inhumanly immersive. His rendition of Jack Cullhane is a study in exhausted resilience—you can hear the weight of twenty years of guilt in every word, the way Straub’s prose lingers on the edges of Jack’s sanity. But it’s in the voice of the Territories’ inhabitants where Dehesdin truly excels. The way he modulates between whispers and snarls turns dialogue that should feel stilted into something genuinely unsettling. The production, too, deserves praise; the audio clarity ensures every creak of a floorboard or hush of wind feels like a physical presence. That said, Straub’s strength is also his occasional weakness. The novel’s slow burn can feel like a slog in audio form, especially when the payoff is so heavily implied rather than shown. And while Dehesdin’s performance is stellar, his French accent occasionally slips when delivering colloquialisms, a minor irritation in an otherwise flawless delivery. Those quibbles aside, *Territoires* is a triumph of audio horror—a relentless, haunting descent into a nightmare that lingers long after the final word.
