The Amulet

I was drawn into 'The Amulet' like a moth to a flame, and once I was in, I couldn't escape. McDowell's prose is like a thick, humid fog, wrapping around you and choking out any hope of a quick escape. The pacing is deliberate, almost languid, but don't let that fool you - this is a horror novel, and the scares are real. Whelan's narration is a significant part of what makes this audiobook so compelling. Her ability to capture the essence of each character, from the downtrodden Sarah to the sinister Mr. Peebles, is nothing short of remarkable. My only critique is that the ending felt a tad rushed, but it's a minor quibble in an otherwise outstanding listen.
