The Champion of the World (A Roald Dahl Short Story)

Stephen Mangan is the perfect storyteller for this Dahl gem. His narration is as lively as the tale itself, capturing the cunning of the protagonist and the absurdity of the situation. Dahl's unique blend of humor and darkness is on full display here, making for a gripping listen despite the story's brevity. The pacing is spot-on, building tension and releasing it in hilarious bursts. However, the story's resolution feels a tad too neat, but that's a minor quibble in an otherwise excellent listen. The production is simple yet effective, letting Dahl's words and Mangan's performance take center stage.
