About This Audiobook

The Chris Farley Show is a loving, raw, and often heart-wrenching tribute to the late comedian. Author Tom Farley, Chris's older brother, pulls together interviews with friends, family, and colleagues to create a comprehensive and intimate oral history. This audiobook is not a traditional memoir, but rather a collection of stories, anecdotes, and reminiscences that paint a vivid picture of Chris Farley's life and career. Narrators Therese Plummer, L.J. Ganser, and Mark Boyett bring a sense of warmth and authenticity to the production, which is both a testament to the enduring power of Farley's comedy and a poignant exploration of his struggles with fame and addiction.
The audiobook is structured around Farley's various projects, from Second City to Saturday Night Live and the film Tommy Boy. Each section offers a unique perspective on his work and personal life, from the highs of his early success to the lows of his increasingly erratic behavior. The result is a nuanced and multifaceted portrait of a complex and charismatic figure, one that is both deeply moving and frequently hilarious.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

As a fan of Chris Farley's work, I was blown away by the depth and richness of The Chris Farley Show. The narration is top-notch, with each performer bringing their own unique voice and style to the production. Therese Plummer's warm and engaging delivery is particularly noteworthy, as she brings a sense of intimacy and connection to the stories being told. The pacing is well-balanced, moving seamlessly from moments of high comedy to more serious, introspective passages. If I have any criticism, it's that some of the interviews feel a bit disconnected from the rest of the narrative, and a few of the anecdotes feel like they're being told simply for their own sake rather than as part of a larger whole. Still, these are minor complaints in an otherwise excellent production. One of the things that struck me most about The Chris Farley Show is its portrayal of the darker side of the entertainment industry. Chris Farley's struggles with addiction and mental health are well-documented, but the audiobook sheds new light on the pressures and expectations that can drive performers to the brink of despair. It's a sobering reminder of the human cost of fame, and a testament to the enduring power of Farley's legacy.
