The story’s first act drags a little, meandering through her dead-end job and family drama before the plot’s darker engines rev up. But once the occult threads weave in, Halle’s pacing tightens like a noose. The romance (if you can call it that) with the enigmatic Sebastian is less about swooning and more about the hypnotic pull of self-destruction. It’s *uncomfortable* in the best way, like watching a car crash through your fingers. Chiaromonte’s performance sells the whole thing. She nails Dawn’s mix of bravado and vulnerability, but where she *really* shines is in the secondary characters—especially the cult-like figures who slither in and out of the story. Their voices dripped with just enough charm to make their menace feel earned. My biggest critique? The ending lands with a thud after so much slow-burn tension; it’s satisfying in a thematic sense but lacks the visceral punch I wanted.
