The Dragon Park

I went into *The Dragon Park* expecting a light, forgettable romp, but Dunlap’s sharp writing and Greer’s stellar narration turned it into a compulsive listen that had me laughing out loud on my commute. Greer nails the tone—Drusinella’s voice is a mix of exhausted professional and gleeful troublemaker, with inflections that land like punchlines. The dragon, a middle-schooler named Kael, is a delightfully insufferable antagonist, and their dynamic feels like a mix of absurdist comedy and sibling rivalry, complete with eye-rolls and muttered insults. The production is clean, with no awkward pauses or muffled lines, and the pacing is impeccable; even at under two hours, it never drags. That said, the ending feels a tad abrupt—like the story was wrapping up just as it was getting good, which is a shame because Dunlap sets up so many fun threads. I also wish there was a bit more world-building around the fairy realm’s rules; it’s fun to poke holes in the logic, but a little more detail might’ve made the stakes feel higher. Still, these are minor quibbles for a audiobook that delivers exactly what it promises: a clever, fast-paced fairy tale with heart, humor, and zero pretension. Greer’s performance alone makes it worth the credit.
