The Estate Plan

I went into *The Estate Plan* expecting another fluffy romance about a rich girl learning lessons, but Dowling-Eversly’s take is deliciously subversive. Charlotte isn’t just a spoiled heiress—she’s a master manipulator with a heart of gold hiding under layers of sarcasm and self-doubt. The humor is relentless, from her disastrous attempts to woo the wrong men to her grandmother’s passive-aggressive letters that read like a villain monologue from a soap opera. The romance itself is a slow burn, but it’s the banter between Charlotte and her reluctant right-hand-man, Liam, that steals the show. Their chemistry is electric, even when they’re bickering over who gets to drive a vintage sports car. That said, the audiobook isn’t without flaws. Virtual Voice’s narration occasionally stumbles over some of the more convoluted estate jargon, making a few scenes feel clunky. And while the pacing is mostly tight, the middle act drags a bit as Charlotte’s schemes spiral into increasingly ridiculous territory—though to be fair, that’s part of the fun if you’re here for the chaos. The ending lands with a satisfying thud, wrapping up the rom-com beats neatly without overstaying its welcome. If you’re craving a rom-com that’s equal parts smart and silly, with a protagonist who’s more anti-hero than damsel, this is your audiobook.
