About This Audiobook

The Goblin Horde by Ivan Kal is an unapologetic, adrenaline-fueled romp through a world where only the strongest survive. Kal's writing is a perfect blend of dark humor and high-stakes action, where the protagonist Morgan must adapt to a reality where death is a mere setback. The audiobook's energetic pace is expertly matched by narrator Ryan Burke, whose deadpan delivery perfectly captures Morgan's sarcastic wit. As Burke navigates the world of Goblin Horde, he imbues the characters with a sense of relatability, making the listener's investment in their fate all the more intense.

Burke's narration is more than just a straightforward delivery; he injects each scene with a sense of urgency, propelling the listener forward into the heart of the action. His vocal range is impressively versatile, effortlessly switching between the gruff, battle-hardened veterans and the wide-eyed, awestruck newcomers. What sets The Goblin Horde apart from other fantasy audiobooks is its unapologetic willingness to push the boundaries of what's considered 'normal' in the genre. Kal's world-building is refreshingly brutal, where the line between hero and monster is constantly blurred.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went into The Goblin Horde expecting a fun, high-octane ride, and that's exactly what I got. From the get-go, Ryan Burke's narration had me hooked, his dry delivery perfectly capturing the tone of Ivan Kal's writing. As the story hurtles forward, Burke's pacing keeps the listener on the edge of their seat, and his ability to convey the emotional complexity of the characters is nothing short of impressive. What I loved most about The Goblin Horde is its willingness to take risks and subvert expectations – who expects a fantasy protagonist to be a sarcastic, foul-mouthed, car-accident survivor? It's this unpredictability that makes the story so compelling, and Burke's performance is the perfect complement to Kal's bold storytelling. That being said, I did find the supporting cast to be somewhat one-dimensional at times. While Morgan's sarcastic wit is endlessly entertaining, some of the side characters feel more like cardboard cutouts than fully fleshed-out personalities. Additionally, the world-building, while impressively detailed, can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming – it's not always clear how the different factions and plot threads are connected. These are minor quibbles, however, and don't detract from the overall enjoyment of the audiobook. If you're a fan of high-octane fantasy with a dash of dark humor, The Goblin Horde is an absolute must-listen.
