I approached *The Heroes* hoping for a quick mythological tour, and Flo Gibson delivered more than a simple recitation. Her narration strikes a tone that feels both scholarly and storyteller‑like; she modulates her pace to match the tension of each quest—quickening during the Sirens’ chorus, slowing for the reflective moments when Perseus contemplates his destiny. The pacing overall is excellent: each episode is trimmed to its narrative core, so the six‑hour run time never feels padded. Production-wise, the audiobook is crisp, with a subtle background hum that evokes the echo of ancient amphitheaters without overwhelming Gibson’s voice. A couple of hiccups, however, keep the rating from soaring. At times, Gibson’s pronunciation of Greek names slips into a slightly British affectation that can feel out of sync with the otherwise neutral narration. Additionally, the transition between the Argonauts’ voyage and Heracles’ labors could have benefited from a brief musical bridge; the abrupt cut feels a little jarring. Still, those are minor quibbles in an otherwise engaging retelling. Kingsley’s prose, though Victorian, is surprisingly accessible, and Gibson’s clear, steady delivery makes it feel fresh.
