Finch’s dialogue is razor-sharp, especially in the early acts, where the banter between old friends carries the weight of unspoken histories. That said, the middle act drags slightly; there’s a stretch where the paranoia loops a beat too long, and I found my attention wandering during a few of the lodge’s *many* introspective firelit monologues. Reston’s narration, though, is a game-changer. His performance is understated but devastating—particularly in the scenes where the group’s dynamic fractures. He nails the exhaustion in Mark’s voice when he’s arguing with his wife, and the way his tone drops to a whisper during the book’s eeriest moments (that *scene* with the radio static? Chills.) My only critique is that his female voices occasionally blur together, lacking the distinct cadence of the male characters. Still, the production quality is flawless: no distracting edits, no uneven volume levels, just pure, immersive tension. If you love thrillers that prioritize psychological unraveling over cheap thrills—and narrators who *get* the material—this is your next listen. Just maybe not on a solo road trip through the woods.
