The production takes risks, too: scenes set at a disastrous TV interview use layered voices and ambient noise to ratchet up the tension, making you feel like a fly on the wall in a room full of landmines. That said, the pacing stumbles in the middle—Alexander’s subplot about a fading reality star’s redemption arc drags, and Beth Eyre’s narration here leans *too* into breathy vulnerability, undercutting the character’s supposed ruthlessness. And while the satire lands (a send-up of influencer culture had me cackling), the ending’s abrupt shift from camp to sincerity whiplashes. Still, the audiobook’s strengths far outweigh its flaws.
