Editor's Review ★★★★

AudioBook Atlas

As someone who has spent countless hours devouring epic fantasy audiobooks, I can confidently say that The Mortal Blade is a standout title in the genre. Shaun Grindell's narration is phenomenal, bringing a level of emotional depth and complexity to the characters that I've rarely encountered in an audiobook. His voice has a natural cadence that makes the story flow effortlessly, and he's able to convey even the most subtle emotions through his tone and inflection. One of the things that impressed me most about The Mortal Blade was its ability to balance action and character development. Mitchell's writing is tightly paced, with battles and skirmishes that are both intense and visceral, but the audiobook never loses sight of its characters' emotional journeys. Corthie's struggles to come to terms with his new role as a champion are deeply relatable, and I found myself cheering him on as he navigated the treacherous landscape of the Eternal Siege. If I have any criticisms, it's that the supporting cast could benefit from a bit more development. Some of the characters feel a tad one-dimensional, particularly in the early chapters, which can make it difficult to become fully invested in their stories. Additionally, some of the world-building feels a tad rushed, particularly in regards to the science fiction elements that underpin the narrative. However, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent audiobook that will appeal to fans of epic fantasy and science fiction alike.
