But *The Most Likely Club* disarmed me within chapters, thanks to Friedland’s knack for dialogue that’s both biting and painfully relatable. These women aren’t aspirational; they’re *familiar*. There’s Melissa, the former prom queen clinging to her fading influence like a life raft; Becca, the overachiever whose career success can’t outrun her loneliness; and then there’s Jenny, whose passive-aggressive “I’m fine”s could fuel a power plant. Friedland writes their dynamic with the precision of someone who’s survived a girls’ trip gone wrong. Kristen Sieh’s narration elevates the material significantly. She nails the rhythm of female friendship—the rapid-fire teasing, the sudden shifts into vulnerability, the way a joke can land like a dagger. Her character voices are distinct but never cartoonish, and she leans into the book’s darker comedic beats (like the disastrous karaoke scene) with perfect timing. My only critique? The third act’s emotional confrontations occasionally veer into afterschool-special territory, and one character’s arc feels rushed compared to the others. That said, the audiobook’s production is flawless—no jarring edits or volume shifts—and the chemistry between the friends crackles even in silence. If you’ve ever sat across from a friend thinking, *How do we still love each other after all this?*, this is your audiobook. Just maybe don’t listen with headphones on public transit—you *will* snort-laugh.
