Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I have to admit, I was hooked from the very start of The Neighbor. Drama Simpson's narration is spot-on, bringing Trey's struggles to life with a depth and nuance that's rare in audiobooks. The way she conveys his inner turmoil, his growing sense of unease, and his desperate attempts to uncover the truth is absolutely captivating. The pacing is expertly handled, with a perfect balance of tension and release that kept me guessing until the final reveal. One of the things that really stood out to me was the way Stewart explores the theme of perfectionism. Trey's desire to present a flawless facade to the world – and to himself – is a relatable, yet ultimately doomed, endeavor. The way the author peels back the layers of Trey's psyche, revealing the scars and insecurities beneath, is both haunting and heartbreaking. My only criticism would be that a few of the supporting characters could have benefited from a bit more development – there were a few times when I felt like I was missing important context about a particular character's motivations or backstory. That being said, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise exceptional audiobook.
