About This Audiobook

Matt Haig's 'The Possession of Mr Cave' is a gripping exploration of grief, loss, and the desperate lengths a father will go to keep his son. Haig's prose is stark, unyielding, and beautifully haunting, painting a portrait of a man teetering on the edge of sanity. Mark Meadows' narration is a standout, his measured, somber tone perfectly capturing the bleak atmosphere and Terence Cave's descent into obsession. What sets this audiobook apart is its unflinching gaze into the abyss of human despair, making it a distinctive listen for those who enjoy psychological fiction that's not afraid to get dark.

Editor's Review ★★★★

AudioBook Atlas

Mark Meadows' narration is the star of this show. His voice is a perfect match for Terence Cave, capturing the character's quiet desperation and growing unraveling. The way he handles the more surreal elements of the story is particularly impressive, bringing a sense of eerie plausibility to the supernatural. The pacing is excellent, building tension masterfully, and the production is clean and unobtrusive. However, the story does veer into the overly melodramatic at times, and some of the more fantastical elements feel a bit too convenient. But these are minor quibbles in an otherwise outstanding audiobook that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
