Frank Muller’s narration of *The Rainmaker* is worth the price of admission alone. Muller’s knack for nailing regional accents (the Delta drawl in one scene is *chef’s kiss*) and his ability to make legal jargon feel like natural dialogue elevate this from a great book to a stellar audio experience. The pacing is relentless, with Muller’s delivery matching the story’s urgency—every drawn-out pause in a tense cross-examination feels like a held breath. That said, the sheer volume of names (clients, lawyers, judges) can get overwhelming, even for a seasoned listener. There were a few moments where I zoned out, only to realize Muller had just introduced a new player with a monologue-length backstory. A nitpick, sure, but in a 17-hour listen, even small stumbles echo. The production quality is top-tier, with no distracting background noise or volume inconsistencies—just Muller’s voice, crystal clear, like he’s leaning into your ear from a Memphis dive bar. Where the audiobook stumbles slightly is in the emotional beats. Rudy’s personal life (his dying client, his strained relationship with his girlfriend) sometimes feels underplayed in Muller’s delivery, as if the narration prioritizes the legal chess match over the human cost. It’s almost as if Muller’s performance assumes you’re already emotionally invested in Rudy’s plight, which… fair, given Grisham’s writing. But for a story this personal, a little more vocal weight on the quieter, heartbreaking moments would’ve made the climax land even harder. That’s the only reason this isn’t a five-star listen for me—but it’s close. If you’re a fan of legal thrillers, Frank Muller’s *The Rainmaker* is the audiobook equivalent of a perfectly mixed cocktail: sharp, intoxicating, and impossible to put down.
