I've listened to my fair share of thrillers over the years, but Victor Methos' The White Angel Murder has left a lasting impression on me. David Doersch's narration is exceptional, bringing a sense of urgency and desperation to every scene. His portrayal of Jon Stanton is particularly compelling, capturing the detective's weariness and frustration as he navigates the treacherous world of San Diego's underbelly. One of the things that really sets this audiobook apart, though, is its ability to balance light and dark. Methos doesn't shy away from the brutal realities of the crimes, but he also finds a way to make the characters feel real and relatable, even in the midst of all the chaos and destruction. My only criticism is that the pacing occasionally feels a bit uneven, with some scenes feeling a bit rushed or overly long. Still, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise exceptional listen.
