I was immediately drawn into 'The Widow's Long-Lost Duke' by the sheer audacity of its premise. Eleanor, a woman finally finding her footing in widowhood, only to have her husband reappear? Brilliant! Virtual Voice's narration is a standout feature, capturing Eleanor's spirit and resilience with nuance and depth. The pacing is excellent, balancing moments of tender intimacy with tense, dramatic reveals. The only critique I have is that the secondary characters, while well-drawn, sometimes feel overshadowed by the central duo. However, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise outstanding listen. Honeyfield's exploration of societal expectations and the power dynamics of marriage is thought-provoking and timely, making this more than just a romantic escape.
