Listening to Nathan Kelly narrate Their Bounty is like being pulled into a storm you can’t—and don’t want to—escape. His voice adapts seamlessly to the novel’s shifting tones: raw during moments of violence, hushed and intimate in scenes of vulnerability. He gives Clover a brittle edge that slowly softens, making the emotional transformation feel authentic. The production is crisp, no audio glitches, and the pacing aligns perfectly with the story’s escalating tension. What stood out most was how Kelly handles dialogue—each character has a distinct presence, but Clover and Dex’s exchanges carry a quiet electricity that elevates the entire experience. That said, the first hour is dense with exposition and can feel sluggish compared to the tautness that follows. Also, while the explicit content is integral to the characters’ connection, a few scenes verge on repetitive, slightly dulling their impact. Still, the audiobook’s strengths far outweigh its flaws. Merikan doesn’t offer easy answers, and Kelly doesn’t sugarcoat the delivery—this is a performance that lingers, uncomfortable and beautiful in equal measure.
