I went into There's No Crying in Rock-N-Roll expecting a familiar tale of a musician chasing stardom, but Marshall and her talented cast surprised me at every turn. The audiobook's greatest strength lies in its willingness to push boundaries and take risks – Henley's impulsive behavior and reckless decisions will likely have listeners cringing in recognition. At the same time, the performances are so well-integrated that it's easy to become completely invested in Henley's journey, even when she's making questionable choices. One area where the audiobook could benefit from further refinement is in its pacing. The production is slick and polished, but the story occasionally feels like it's trying to cram too much into its relatively brief runtime. A few scenes, particularly those involving Henley's relationships with her bandmates, feel a bit rushed and could be expanded upon in future editions. That being said, Marshall's writing is so engaging and the performances so strong that it's easy to overlook minor quibbles. Overall, There's No Crying in Rock-N-Roll is a wildly original and deeply satisfying listen – I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a compelling romance or a behind-the-scenes look at the music industry.
