As a comedy enthusiast, I was hooked from the opening minute of This Might Get a Little Heavy, and Oliver Wyman's narration is a significant reason why. His warm, mellow tone invites listeners to join May on a rollercoaster ride of hilarious misadventures, heart-wrenching struggles, and unflinching self-reflection. I especially appreciated how Wyman conveyed May's vulnerability, particularly in the sections where May opens up about his addiction and relationships. It's a testament to the chemistry between narrator and subject that I felt a sense of emotional investment in May's journey – even in the darkest moments, there's a sense of hope and resilience that's deeply inspiring. While some listeners may find certain aspects of the memoirs' narrative structure a bit disjointed, I found this refreshing and true to May's unpolished, raw humor. However, I wish Wyman had provided more distinct differentiation between May's various comedy routines, which, at times, felt slightly disorienting. Minor complaints aside, This Might Get a Little Heavy is a triumph of comedic storytelling and a fitting tribute to Ralphie May's indelible legacy.
