Too Close to the Sun

As I dove into Too Close to the Sun, I found myself swept up in the Roosevelt children's adventures at the White House. Curtis's writing is so vivid and relatable that it's easy to imagine myself as a child, exploring the mansion's secret passages and playing hide-and-seek in the garden. Jeremy Gage's narration is a major factor in this immersive experience – his calm, measured pace is perfect for the subject matter, and he brings a sense of levity to the more lighthearted moments. While I appreciated the author's candor about the difficulties of growing up in a high-profile family, there were moments where I felt like the narrative could have benefited from a bit more historical context – specifically, the international events that were unfolding during this time period. Nonetheless, the book is a compelling and intimate look at the Roosevelt family that I didn't want to put down.
