About This Audiobook

Tribulation drops you into a collapsing America with Emilio Vega—a young man branded a terrorist and tossed into the machinery of a paranoid state—just as tectonic fury rips society apart. Mark Goodwin doesn’t ease you into this dystopia; he throws you into the shuddering streets, broken glass, and smoke, forcing you to run alongside Emilio as he claws his way through chaos. This isn’t just disaster fiction—it’s a visceral critique of surveillance culture, racial profiling, and institutional cruelty, all wrapped in a relentless survival narrative that feels terrifyingly plausible. Kevin Pierce’s narration is a revelation—calm, grounded, and emotionally precise, even as the world disintegrates around him. He doesn’t overact the drama; instead, he lets the horror breathe through restrained intensity, making Emilio’s trauma feel immediate and real. The audiobook’s strength lies in its taut pacing and moral complexity—every alliance is suspect, every safe zone temporary. If you want explosive action without sacrificing depth, this delivers. Tribulation works both as a pulse-pounding escape and a sobering mirror to today’s social fractures.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went in expecting another YA apocalypse romp, but Tribulation surprised me with its raw nerve and political bite. Kevin Pierce’s performance is one of the best I’ve heard in YA sci-fi—his voice has a weathered clarity that suits Emilio’s weary resilience. He doesn’t go for melodrama, even in the most intense moments, which makes the horror of collapsing cities and predatory militias hit harder. The opening sequence—Emilio’s transport flipping during the quake—is so vividly rendered in audio that I had to pause and catch my breath. The story moves fast, but it doesn’t skimp on character. Emilio’s internal conflict—being accused of a crime he didn’t commit while trying to do the right thing in a broken world—anchors the chaos. That said, some secondary characters feel underdeveloped, and a few plot turns rely a bit too much on coincidence. The final act also rushes slightly, trading emotional payoff for momentum. Still, the production quality is top-tier: crisp audio, subtle sound design that never overpowers, and pacing that keeps you hooked. It’s not perfect, but it’s urgent, timely, and unforgettable in audio form.
