As I listened to Tru, I found myself completely swept up in the whirlwind romance between Beau and Asher. Vargo's narration is a big part of what makes this story so compelling – his voice has a way of drawing you in and refusing to let go. One of the things that truly sets Tru apart, however, is its thoughtful exploration of the complexities of identity and desire. Bates tackles these themes with sensitivity and nuance, never shying away from the messy, beautiful realities of human experience. If I have any criticisms, it's that the supporting cast sometimes feels a bit one-dimensional – the characters of Beau's family members, in particular, feel more like caricatures than fully fleshed-out human beings. Additionally, some listeners may find the audiobook's pacing a bit uneven, as the narrative sometimes jumps abruptly from one plot thread to another. These are minor quibbles, however, and do little to detract from the overall impact of Tru's powerful narrative. Ultimately, this is a story that will leave you breathless, inspired, and perhaps even a little bit changed.
