The case of the ‘Family Annihilator’ in Book 14, for instance, isn’t just a chronicle of violence—it’s a masterclass in how narcissism and entitlement curdle into something monstrous. That said, the relentless pacing can feel exhausting. This isn’t a collection to binge in one sitting; the cumulative weight of 36 cases demands breaks, especially when Neal lingers on the bureaucratic bungling that let killers slip through the cracks. Simon de Deney’s performance is a standout. His delivery is so controlled it borders on sterile, which somehow makes the horrors *more* disturbing—like listening to a coroner’s report where every pause feels deliberate. My only critique? The production occasionally suffers from uneven audio levels in Book 15, where background noise creeps in during quieter passages. It’s minor, but noticeable in an otherwise polished listen. And while Neal’s research is meticulous, a few cases (like the ‘Highway Stalker’ segment) could’ve used tighter editing—they drag where others gut-punch.
