I expected *Underworld* to be another forgettable mythology retelling, but Rain’s series is a fire-starter—equal parts swoon-worthy and unexpectedly dark. The narration by Virtual Voice is a standout; the synthetic performance might raise eyebrows, but it’s oddly perfect for this world. The voice has a seductive, almost supernatural quality that makes Hades’ growls feel tactile and Aphrodite’s sighs sound like a curse. The pacing is relentless too, with each book hurtling toward a breathless cliffhanger that begs for the next installment. My only critique? Some of the dialogue leans *too* modern for the setting—Zeus complaining about his ex-wife like a barista swiping left on Tinder broke the immersion once or twice. And while the steam factor is high, the emotional payoff sometimes feels rushed, leaving relationships resolved in a chapter that felt like they needed more buildup. Still, these are minor nitpicks in a series that delivers exactly what it promises: a guilty, glittering pleasure where love is a game of thrones with the gods themselves.
