The erotic scenes aren’t just titillating; they’re *purposeful*, each one deepening the sense of inevitability. Brian Meslar’s performance is a masterclass in restraint. His delivery is so controlled that when the emotion finally cracks through—like in the scene where the protagonist describes the scent of her skin ‘like burnt sugar and regret’—it hits like a gut punch. That said, the pacing won’t suit everyone. The first hour is deliberate, almost meditative, which might frustrate listeners expecting immediate heat. And while the ambiguity of the ending is thematically perfect, it’s also *infuriating*—I found myself rewinding the last chapter twice, convinced I’d missed something. (I hadn’t.) The sound design is minimal but effective: a distant hum of traffic here, a held breath there, all serving to pull you deeper into the protagonist’s unraveling psyche.
