Vowed to the Vulture God

Elle Sonali deserves a standing ovation for this performance. She nails Lyrie’s no-nonsense pragmatism, making her frustration and growing affection for Kalos feel visceral—especially during their early clashes, when Sonali’s dry wit cuts through every snide remark like a knife. But it’s Kalos where she truly shines. His voice drips with arrogant godly confidence, yet Sonali balances it with enough vulnerability (yes, even a vulture god has one) that by the time he admits his fears, you’re not just invested—you’re emotionally blackmailed. The pacing is tight, with Sonali’s delivery syncing perfectly to the story’s breakneck momentum. That said, the production stumbles slightly in the midsection—the constant use of reverb on Kalos’s dialogue starts to feel like he’s shouting from inside a cave, which gets distracting when things get intense. And while Dixon’s worldbuilding is inventive, some lore dumps (looking at you, endless descriptions of the Anticipation) drag the middle act down. Still, these are minor quibbles. By the final act, Sonali’s performance and Dixon’s scorching romance had me clinging to my phone like a lifeline. If you’ve ever wanted to hate-love a morally flexible god, this is your audiobook.
