Wanted

When I first pressed play on Wanted, I was immediately drawn in by Saffron Martindale’s velvet‑smooth opening. Her phrasing captures the protagonist’s inner conflict—she’s both terrified and exhilarated, and Martindale lets that tremor surface in every whispered confession. The three men are distinct not only in their backstories but in the way Martindale differentiates their speech patterns; the corporate mogul’s clipped, authoritative tone contrasts sharply with the artist’s languid, almost poetic cadence, while the operative’s low, guarded delivery adds a layer of menace. The story itself is a roller‑coaster of heat and head‑games. The erotic scenes are explicit without feeling gratuitous, and the underlying plot about power plays and hidden agendas keeps the narrative from stalling. Production-wise, the audio is crisp, but I did notice a faint undercurrent of synth music during a few of the more intimate moments that, while intended to set mood, occasionally nudged the focus away from the dialogue. Additionally, the middle third of the book slows down a bit as the intrigue deepens—some listeners might find the pacing a touch sluggish here. Overall, however, the combination of Martindale’s compelling performance and the novel’s blend of sensuality and suspense makes Wanted a standout listening experience for anyone who craves romance with an edge.
