What Once Was Mine-A Twisted Tale

I'll be the first to admit that I was a bit skeptical about diving into another retelling of Rapunzel, but Liz Braswell's What Once Was Mine has won me over with its sheer audacity and charm. Rachel Kimsey's narration is a big part of the audiobook's success, bringing the complex and sometimes conflicted emotions of the protagonist to life with a deft touch. One thing that really stood out to me was the way Braswell explores the themes of motherhood and sacrifice, which adds a depth and nuance to the narrative that I didn't expect. However, I did find the pacing to be a bit uneven at times, with some scenes feeling a bit rushed or overlong. Still, these minor quibbles are easily overlooked in the face of the audiobook's many strengths, and I would highly recommend it to fans of fantasy and fairy tale retellings.
