Editor's Review

AudioBook Atlas

I went into Why Elephants Cry expecting a dry, scientific treatise on animal behavior, but what I got was so much more. Hancock's writing is a joy to listen to, full of intriguing anecdotes and thought-provoking insights that will keep you engaged and curious. One of my favorite aspects of the book is Hancock's discussion of the emotional lives of animals – who knew that elephants cry, but also exhibit a range of complex emotions? Michael Langan's narration is top-notch, bringing a sense of warmth and enthusiasm to the proceedings that makes the book feel almost like a conversation with a knowledgeable friend. If I have one criticism, it's that some of the supporting scientific research could have been more thoroughly explained – but overall, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise excellent audiobook. Overall, I highly recommend Why Elephants Cry to anyone interested in science, animals, or just about anything that sparks curiosity.
