Jake Williams carries this audiobook like a seasoned actor who’s paid his dues in gritty crime dramas, and it shows. His Nate isn’t the brooding, broody protagonist you’d expect from a supernatural thriller—he’s a man who’s spent his life ducking responsibility, only to have it shoved down his throat in the form of a throne he never wanted. Williams nails the exhausted cadence of a cop who’s seen too much, but where he truly shines is in the wolf moments. Not the howling, over-the-top horror tropes—actual, visceral shifts where his voice cracks into something animalistic and unhinged. It’s unsettling in the best way. The production team deserves credit too; there’s a tactile quality to the sound design that makes the bloodshed feel intimate, like you’re standing in a room where the walls are slick with it. My biggest critique? The werewolf lore is intriguing, but Nodima doles it out in frustrating drips. I wanted more lore, more history—something to explain why the curse has been dormant for centuries only to rear its head now. Still, the payoff in the final act makes up for it. If you’re craving a supernatural thriller that’s less about monsters and more about the men who become them, *Wolf’s Reign* will haunt you long after the last wolf howl fades.
