I’ll admit, I went into *Wolfshot* expecting another *werewolves in the big city* trope-fest, but Green’s worldbuilding gut-punched me within the first chapter. This isn’t a story about brooding alphas or star-crossed mates—it’s a brutal, kinetic survival tale where the werewolves are more like junkyard dogs than noble guardians. The pack’s hierarchy is vicious, the politics are cutthroat, and the human characters are just as morally gray as the monsters. Diana Croft’s narration is a masterclass in vocal texture: she growls, spits, and even *whimpers* her way through the grittier scenes, making the transformation sequences viscerally unsettling. Her London accents are spot-on, but it’s her ability to sell the animalistic rage that really sells the horror-fantasy blend. That said, the pacing isn’t perfect. The middle act drags slightly as the plot tangles in pack infighting, and a few secondary characters blur together (a risk when your cast is mostly snarling, muscular werewolves). The sound design, though immersive, occasionally overdoes the reverb in dialogue-heavy scenes, muddying Croft’s delivery. But when the story hits its stride—like the chase through the Tube tunnels or the climactic showdown in a derelict pub—it’s *electric*. This isn’t a cozy listen; it’s an audiobook that demands your attention, preferably with the lights on.
