Baker nails the balance between clarity and gravitas—his delivery never veers into the exaggerated theatrics you’d expect from lesser narrators. That said, there were a few moments where his pacing lagged slightly in the longer case summaries, making some of the denser sections feel like a chore rather than a revelation. Still, his ability to distinguish between victims’ emotions and killers’ cold calculations is nothing short of masterful. Smith’s writing shines in how it humanizes the killers just enough to make their actions more unsettling—they’re not monsters lurking in shadows, but people who looked you in the eye and lied. The production quality is crisp, with no distracting background noise, which is crucial for a book this heavy. My only real gripe is that some of the cases deserved more depth; a few victims’ stories felt underdeveloped, leaving me wanting more context.
