As someone who's always been fascinated by European royalty, I found 'Yo, el Rey' to be an utterly absorbing listen. Eyre's meticulous research and insider knowledge provide a level of detail that's both fascinating and at times, astonishing. Contreras' narration is a perfect match for the material, her voice resonating with the appropriate gravitas for a king, yet capable of shifting seamlessly to convey the emotions and motivations of those around him. The only critique I have is that the pacing can feel a tad slow in places, but this is a minor quibble in an otherwise excellent audiobook. If you're interested in royal biographies, Spanish history, or simply enjoy a well-told story, this is a must-listen.
