Zombie Road VIII

Eric A. Shelman’s narration is the glue holding this fever dream together. He doesn’t just read the words—he *drives* them, his voice shifting from a grizzled trucker’s growl to a terrified teen’s squeak with an ease that makes the extreme moments feel lived-in rather than staged. The audiobook’s 11+ hours fly by because his pacing is tight, even when the story lurches into surreal territory (looking at you, zombie Elvis). That said, the sheer volume of characters can be disorienting; I’d occasionally catch myself rewinding because I lost track of who was in the cab of which truck. The production is top-tier, though—every gunshot rings like a cannon, and the road noise is so immersive I swear I smelled gasoline. My biggest nitpick? The ending feels abrupt, as if the final gear shift is missing. But if you’re here for the ride, not the destination, that won’t matter. This is a zombie story for people who’d rather burn rubber than run.
