About This Audiobook

TW Brown’s *Zomblog II* isn’t your typical zombie tale—it’s a slimy, desperate crawl through the aftermath of an outbreak that’s still fresh enough to stink. Meredith Gainey, the protagonist, isn’t some hardened soldier or snarky survivor; she’s a regular person whose wit and stubbornness become her only weapons. Brown’s writing bleeds atmosphere, from the crunch of bone underfoot to the suffocating silence of a world where even the air feels toxic. The horror isn’t just in the gore or the relentless chase scenes—it’s in the slow unraveling of society, the way Meredith’s world collapses into something uglier than she ever imagined. This isn’t a tale of hope or redemption; it’s a story about clinging to humanity when the world’s already lost it.

The audiobook’s strength lies in Emily Dane’s narration, which doesn’t just recite the words—it *inhabits* them. Dane’s voice crackles with Meredith’s exhaustion, her rage, and the undercurrent of dark humor that keeps this from feeling like a slog. The pacing is tight, with short, punchy chapters that mirror the erratic survival of the protagonist. Brown’s world feels lived-in, the kind of place where the horror isn’t just in the zombies but in the choices Meredith has to make to stay alive. If you love your apocalypses gritty, unflinching, and dripping with dread, this is your next listen.

AudioBook Atlas

I started *Zomblog II* expecting another run-of-the-mill zombie story, but TW Brown’s writing pulled me into Meredith’s world so fast I forgot to breathe. Dane’s narration is the secret weapon here—her delivery of Meredith’s internal monologues, especially the darkly humorous asides, made me feel like I was right there in the muck with her. The audiobook’s production is clean, with no distracting background noise, letting the story’s tension shine. That said, the ending felt rushed to me; Brown wraps up Meredith’s arc too neatly after such a brutal journey. I also wished for a bit more depth in the side characters—Meredith’s interactions with others often felt transactional, which undercut some of the emotional weight. Still, the flaws are minor in a story that’s otherwise so immersive. Brown doesn’t glamorize survival; he makes it ugly, realistic, and at times, deeply uncomfortable. The zombies aren’t just mindless monsters—they’re a force of nature, and Meredith’s struggle to outsmart them (and the remnants of humanity) feels earned. If you want a zombie story that’s less ‘hopeful’ and more ‘how long can I keep my sanity,’ this is your pick. Dane’s performance elevates it even further, making this one of the most gripping zombie audiobooks I’ve heard in years.
