Reading A Novel Idea is like having a cup of sweet tea while solving a puzzle on the beach. Elizabeth Spann Craig crafts a cozy mystery that feels wonderfully familiar yet refreshingly detailed. The setting of Whitby is vivid and inviting, and the protagonist, Sally Simmons, is delightfully complex – not just the town lovable librarian, but someone with a keen eye and a past that adds intrigue. Narrator Romy Nordlinger performs a masterful job, bringing warmth, gentle authority, and just the right amount of Southern charm to Sally's voice. Her narration makes you feel like you're right there in the library, alongside the other characters. The pacing is generally excellent, with clues planted naturally and the mystery building satisfyingly. While the resolution feels almost conventional for the genre, the journey is thoroughly enjoyable.
